Master Smith Test Damascus Bowie
This Ladder Pattern Bowie has a blade that is 9.75” long and hand forged from 315 layers of 1084 and 15N20 high carbon steels. The overall length of the knife is 15”. The slightly oversized guard, collars, and butt cap are all hand forged Damascus as well. The spacers as well as the pommel nut are handmade and finished silicon bronze. The handle on this Bowie is a beautiful presentation grade Desert Ironwood burl. Every piece of this Bowie was hand made from raw materials by American Bladesmith Society Master Smith Charles Carpenter.
There are now 117 Master Bladesmiths in the world and I am proud and honored to now be on that list. This knife was created to be judged by a panel of seven Master Smiths for the Master Smith test. The standard to meet for the test is for the design, fit, and finish for each of the five knives submitted to be perfect to exemplary and I am proud to say that this knife as well as the others passed that test earlier this year. This is the opportunity to purchase a functional piece of art that has been judged to that standard by the panel. Since this knife was one of the knives that earned my MS (Master Smith) ranking it does have the JS (Journeyman Smith) stamp, and it is one of the last knives that I will ever make that has that stamp as all knives moving forward will have the MS Stamp.
