The Runt Crop Point with Koa

The Runt is what I call these little knives. In my opinion they are the perfect size for an everyday carry fixed blade knife whether you are going to town or going to the woods. The new trend in the custom knife maker world seems to be to have a steel supplier water jet out a blade blank and then send it to someone else to grind and heat treat. By the time the (maker) receives the blade the only thing remaining to in order to finish the knife is to add the makers mark and install the pre-shaped handle scales. I personally don’t believe in (making) knives this way. I believe that every step of the process of making the knives I build, and sell should be done one hundred percent by me and with my hands alone in order to get my makers maker’s mark. You don’t have to agree with me, but I simply believe that if a customer is buying a knife from a custom maker, it should be a knife that is hand forged and hand finished by that maker alone.

This knife, just like all other knives out of my shop is completely made by me from raw material start to finish. The blades on these little runts are hand forged and hand finished by me and has been hand forged from high carbon 80CRV2 steel. This particular knife has a drop point blade and Hawaiian Koa handle scales. The blade is 2-3/4” long while the overall length is 5-5/8”. This knife also comes with a hand tooled and hand sewn full grain leather sheath with an ambidextrous design that will allow you to carry it virtually any way you would want, whether that is in a left or right front pocket, as a neck knife, or on the right or left side on your belt. This blade still has my Journeyman Smith (J.S.) maker’s mark instead of my new Master Smith (M.S.) mark as all knives will have moving forward. This fact alone makes this knife even more rare as there will never be another knife made by me with a JS designation.
