Ladder Pattern Damascus Fighter with Black Ash
This hand forged and finished fighter style knife features hand forged blade of 1084 and 15N20 high carbon steel in a Ladder Pattern Damascus. The blade is 7.5” from tip to guard. The knife has an overall length of 12.25”. The guard and collar are Damascus as well while the hand filed spacer is of Silicone Bronze. The handle features a beautiful example of stabilized Black Ash Burl wood.
As with all blades from Big River Forge this knife including the Damascus steel has been hand made from raw materials to finished piece by American Bladesmith Society, Master Smith, Charles Carpenter. This knife also includes a beautiful handmade, fully lined, custom sheath that has also been handmade, and hand stitched by Charles Carpenter.
There are now 117 Master Bladesmiths in the world and I am proud and honored to now be on that list. This knife was created to be judged by a panel of seven Master Smiths for my Master Smith test. The standard that must be met for the test is for the design, fit, and finish for each of the five knives submitted to be perfect to exemplary and I am proud to say that I passed that test earlier this year. Five knives are required for the test and this knife was built as an alternate for that group but ended up not being used for the actual test. This is the opportunity to purchase a functional piece of art that has been judged to that standard by the panel. Since this knife was build before passing the M.S. (Master Smith) test, it has my old J.S. (Journeyman Smith) stamp so it is one of the last knives that I will ever make that has that stamp as all knives moving forward will have the MS Stamp.
